👉 The Bible says sex is owed, not earned.

That statement offends modern culture, but it comes directly from Scripture.

📖 “Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time…” 1 Corinthians 7:3-5 (KJV)

Paul doesn’t tell husbands and wives to earn sexual intimacy.

He tells them to render it.

He doesn’t say husbands and wives may withhold it until the other has done enough chores, bought enough gifts, planned enough dates, or met enough emotional conditions.

Instead, he says they are not to deprive one another except by mutual consent for a limited time devoted to prayer.

Then Solomon gives us a beautiful picture of what this looks like.

📖 “Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well… Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth… let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.” Proverbs 5:15, 18-19 (KJV)

God compares a husband’s sexual desire to thirst and his wife to the well that continually quenches that thirst.

A well isn’t something a thirsty man has to negotiate access to every time he needs a drink.

It is there to satisfy his thirst.

This is the biblical picture of marriage.

A husband is commanded to lovingly lead, protect, provide for, and cherish his wife.

A wife is commanded not to deprive her husband, but to be the well from which he freely drinks.

Neither spouse should weaponize what God designed to unite them. Get it right, or don’t do it at all. Many people will go through far too many relationships and marriages only to have them repeatedly fail. Because they are contrary to God’s plans and wants for us.

And when these deviant moves are enacted by us humans, it is all built on sand. Wasted time, wasted energy and spiritual degradation. God let’s these dark unions end.
